AWWA "Sky Whale" Concept Plane is a project about the future "green" aircraft designs for the regular airline's planes of the 21st century, that could be based in a technical solutions more friendly with the environment, most efficient and with the maximum performance.
For example it is expected to use systems that will:
- Reduce aircraft drag
- Reduce aircraft weight
- Reduce engine specific fuel consumption
- Reduce oxides of nitrogen emissions of the engine
- Reduce aircraft noise by 1/8 compared with current standards
- Reduce damages in a hypothetical emergency landing
- Increase its self-sufficiency
The AWWA-VA could be equipped with a new advanced technologies from alloys, ceramic or fiber composites, carbon nanotube and fiber optic cabling to self-healing skin, hybrid electric engines, active wings , double fuselages and virtual reality windows with adaptable opacity and capable to create electric energy with micro solar cells in hexagonal geometry like a part of structure's ceiling. Compared to the typical wing used today, the active wings are longer from tip to tip, with an active air flow control system – eccentric turbine inside the wing near to the fuselage – which could redirect the laminar air flow and turbulences and at the same time produce electric energy for the hybrid engines (4 oversize electric-fuel engines). Projected advances in battery technology enable a unique, hybrid turbo-electric propulsion system.
Designer : Oscar Viñals
The aircraft's engines could use both fuel to burn in the engine's core, and electricity to turn the turbofan when the core is powered down. The AWWA's engines could rotate up to 45 degrees in vertical position to assist in the take-off and landing maneuvers (VA -Versatile Alliance System- ), reducing substantially the distance of track to do this actions and like a support in adverse circumstances. All controlled with avionic systems and fly by wire system that is assisted with active sensors located through the plane's surface.
The disposition of the wings and its architecture (with integrate engines) separated from the airplane's fuselage like a security measure, that in a hypothetical fatal case of an emergency landing, these could auto-break up to reduce the damages on the passengers section. It could have a seating capacity for approx. 755 passengers, allocated in three "levels" or floors; 1rst class on top with "sky views" & all conceivable luxuries for a trip in an airplane like this, tourist class "A" in the middle floor with ample seats & "sky views" in front and rear and tourist class with all the comfort and space to have a pleasant flight.
